Couples Counseling in St. Louis

Including EFT & Gottman Method

No two relationships are exactly alike, and for this reason, our skilled counselors utilize a personalized approach to planning your counseling sessions to ensure you and your partner have the opportunities and resources you need to grow, learn, and build an intimate and lasting relationship based on trust, hope, and honesty. We often utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method to help our couples. Both of these two powerful, empirically supported approaches provide keys to developing and maintaining lasting love. How Does Couples & Marriage Counseling Work?

Relationship is hardwired into our brains and our bodies. We long to be loved, to be valued, and to be accepted just as we are. In our counseling work, we re-find these parts of ourselves, and we help you to create the bond you want with your partner. Couples counseling can help you and your partner KNOW you are loved and valued and ensure you FEEL accepted.

Is Couples Counseling Right For You?

During couples counseling at the St. Louis Counseling Center, our knowledgeable clinicians help couples re-find, re-build, or re-establish deep connection, loving commitment, and mutual respect and understanding. You and your partner may want to consider scheduling counseling in the following situations:

  • Your relationship is in distress

  • You want to re-find, re-build, or re-establish a loving connection

  • You need help overcoming affairs and other betrayals

  • You need support as you decide what you want next for your relationship

  • You want to do premarital counseling work

  • You feel like you’re the only one “in” the marriage

What Does Couples Counseling Work Look Like?

We start by understanding exactly where you are in your relationship and where you would like to get to! Then, our counselors work to address negative cycles that have taken over relationships, help you through problematic events, and give you the support and skill you need to enable loving, attuned connection.

In More Detail...

Couples counseling is a process that we engage in together. Counselors help those in the relationship to function differently, and in so doing, facilitate a loving bond. As human beings, we are all instinctively wired towards creating close connections with others. Preserving and improving these connections, is a huge benefit of couples counseling work. Sometimes, your counselor will ask to meet with you separately during assessment to help deepen their understanding of your unique situation. Sometimes, they won't. Neither is bad. It’s all about what works best for you, and the counselor’s choices are a testament to the fact that there is no "one-size-fits-all" counseling solution for every couple. We all have a different journey, and we work with you to figure yours out.

If you are motivated to work with a counselor as a couple, for whatever reason, we highly recommend making the most of this time. When you want change, it is something you can make happen, but it does take work and investment from both parties. Contact us to find out more and see how we can serve you!
