We are here to provide a safe, nonjudgmental and supportive place for you to build a life you love, with greater freedom from thoughts and behaviors that are keeping you stuck. Keep reading to learn more about how working with one of the counselors in one of our two St. Louis practices can help you overcome disordered eating and concerns with body image.

When Should I Seek Help?

We regularly help people who are struggling with binging, restricting, emotional eating, and body image struggles. Our counselors also work with people who are rebuilding their lives after residential treatment for disordered eating or body image issues. If you are interested in starting down the road to cultivating a healthier life, no matter where you are in your struggle with disordered thinking or distorted body image, we are her for you. Still not sure counseling is the best option? Consider the following questions. If you answer yes to any of these, seeking counseling may be beneficial for you:

  • Are your beliefs about your body and it’s shortcomings keeping you from engaging in activities?

  • Do you find yourself adjusting your schedule and social interactions so that you can keep to a food routine (restricting, calorie counting, bingeing, eating in secret, etc.)

  • Do you find that most or all of your day is spent planning, thinking about, or feeling shame about, your behavior with food?

  • Have friends and family expressed concern for you based on your eating habits, comments you make about your weight or appearance, or other issues relating to your body image?

  • Are you finding that your performance and energy level are changing dramatically or that you feel out of control due to your eating patterns?

What Does Eating Disorder Counseling Look Like?

First, one of our counselors works with you to understand who you are as a person, and what unique strengths and needs you bring. Then, together, you and your counselor create a plan to move from disordered or problematic patterns, into a life that is more vibrant.

For most people, we will also help you connect with a dietician and a medical professional if you have not already done so. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that you are receiving all the support you need to reach your goals. Don’t hesitate to contact us for a free 15 minute consultation to see if working with one of our counselors might be the right option for you.
